The H2d hydrophone is an impressive piece of acoustic engineering, combining a robust design and high-quality components into an excellent product for those looking to make clear recordings of the underwater world. It is available with either a 3.5mm jack connection, compatible with a wide range of recording devices including those that require plug-in power (3.5mm jack only), or an XLR connection, suitable for use with any PA system or recording device that offers a balanced, phantom-powered, microphone input. The CS6 signal development board provides around 10dB improved sensitivity compared to its predecessor, and the design minimises distracting background noise in recordings. It has a small, streamlined shape that helps maintain it's position in the water column, and the robust stainless steel core with urethane rubber transducer make it eminently portable for fieldwork.
The H2d is available with a 3m, 9m, or 15m cable. When producing underwater recordings, it is best to purchase a cable length that will allow for the hydrophone to be suspended as close to the centre of the water column as possible, as reverberations of the bottom or the surface will interfere with the recording.
