British Wildlife is the leading natural history magazine in the UK, providing essential reading for both enthusiast and professional naturalists and wildlife conservationists. Published eight times a year, British Wildlife bridges the gap between popular writing and scientific literature through a combination of long-form articles, regular columns and reports, book reviews and letters.
Conservation Land Management (CLM) is a quarterly magazine that is widely regarded as essential reading for all who are involved in land management for nature conservation, across the British Isles. CLM includes long-form articles, events listings, publication reviews, new product information and updates, reports of conferences and letters.
The hand penetrometer for top layers is a versatile tool designed to measure the penetration resistance of soil's upper layers. Due to its compact design, it allows for both vertical and horizontal measurements.
Ideal for assessing soil density, this hand penetrometer measures resistance using a cone and a compression spring. The principle of the hand penetrometer is based on measuring the highest penetration resistance of a cone over a distance of about 10 cm. The appropriate cone and spring combination is chosen based on anticipated resistance levels. If the expected penetration resistance is high, a cone with a small surface is selected, and a compression spring with a large maximum force is selected, and vice versa.
Applications:
Angle of cone: 30 °
Cone surface range: 0.25, 0.5 cm²
Connection: Screw thread
Maximum force: 1500 @ 0,25 cm² kPa
Maximum measuring depth: 60 cm
Measured parameters: Penetration resistance
Measuring accuracy: < +/- 8%
