Interest of scholars in the ecology of bats has led to the development of this up-to-date identification key with the objective of providing systematic data about bats and encouraging interested parties to be able to identify the species of the different regions of Brazil.

The diversity of bats in Brazil is one of the largest in the world, and another 12 new species have been discovered in recent years, bringing the total to 180 species, of which close to a dozen are threatened. They are distributed in the families Emballonuridae, Phyllostomidae, Mormoopidae, Noctilionidae, Furipteridae, Thyropteridae, Natalidae, Molossidae and Vespertilionidae.

In this volume the authors provide updated data on the description, dietary habits, geographical distribution, reproductive data, habitat and the degree of threat of each of the Brazilian species, besides the identification key. They hope with this work to help professionals interested in this group and those worried about protecting them, by providing greater knowledge in this area.

O interesse dos estudiosos na ecologia dos quirópteros nos levou a elaborar uma chave de identificação atualizada, com os objetivos de fornecer dados sistemáticos sobre os morcegos e incentivar aos interessados, levando-os ao reconhecimento das espécies das diversas regiões do Brasil.

A diversidade de morcegos do Brasil é uma das maiores do mundo e ainda, mais 12 novas espécies foram descobertas nestes últimos anos somando 180 espécies, destas, perto de uma dezena se encontram ameaçadas. Estão distribuídas nas Famílias Emballonuridae, Phyllostomidae, Mormoopidae, Noctilionidae, Furipteridae, Thyropteridae, Natalidae, Molossidae e Vespertilionidae.

Atualizamos neste volume dados sobre a descrição, hábitos alimentares, distribuição geográfica, dados reprodutivos, habitat e o grau de ameaça de cada uma das espécies brasileiras, além, da chave de identificação. Esperamos com este trabalho, ajudar profissionais interessados neste grupo por motivo de trabalho e aqueles preocupados em protegê-los, proporcionando um maior conhecimento nesta área.
