About this book

Identification Guide to the Inshore Fish of the British Isles, by Dr Peter Henderson of Pisces Conservation is a comprehensive photographic guide to the coastal fish of the British Isles. The book is aimed at anglers, marine biologists, ecologists and students interested in British fish.

For most species, the book has a double-page spread with a series of images and drawings showing all the key features, and the text presenting information on size, colour, diagnostic features, similar species, distribution and life history, commercial and recreational fishing, and human consumption. The introductory chapters and glossary provide invaluable background knowledge and information.

Most of the photographs in the book have been taken by Pisces Conservation staff, showing actual specimens as they are likely to be encountered, rather than an idealised image. The species are arranged into chapters featuring one or several families; the larger chapters each have a key to distinguish individual species.

A total of 178 species of fish are given a full description, with over 100 other species mentioned in the text. It is the definitive guide to the British marine fish, and will also be invaluable for users all round northern Europe.
