The lakes of Jammu and Kashmir, India, have been renowed for centuries for their serene and pristine beauty. Most of the lakes of Jammu and Kashmir are remnants of ancient oxbows created by numerous rivers as they meandered within the valleys. Having a complex and vibrant ecosystem, the lakes also became the center of life for the inhabitants of the state. This book has been divided into seven chapters: remote sensing based hazard assessment of glacial lakes, water bodies and their restoration, wetland ecosystem conservation, loss of inheritance of lake, Kashmir, sacred rivers and wular lakes, north-west Himalayas (lakes, reservoirs, rivers and streams). This book provides a systemic approach to understand this subject.
