This publication provides a color landscape-based vegetation map of the southern Caribbean island of Curaçao (Dutch Antilles). The results provide new insights into vegetation changes over a period of more than 40 years. These changes are discussed in the light of possible causal factors. The results provide excellent insight for nature conservation and management and spatial planning purposes.
Seven main landscape types and 24 sub-landscape types are distinguished based on geology, geomorphology and 21 described component natural vegetation types. The present study is based on the interpretation of colour aerial photographs, subsequent fieldwork and computer analysis of the field data collected.
