In Southern High Katanga, ferruginous formations such as iron duricrusts and stone lines with lateritic nodules have generated significant interest. They have been the subject of numerous research projects and some remarkable controversies. The main aim of this study is two-fold. On the one hand, to unravel in as much detail as possible the formation of these duricrusts and other ferruginous formations, based on field observations and structural analyses of samples. On the other hand, to propose a stratigraphical series, based on the identified duricrusts, and apply this to the geomorphological evolution of Southern Katanga.
