Mattson Increment Borers are high quality borers designed for durability and precision. Each borer is made from high quality polished steel and is individually sharpened to ensure the best performance possible. The handle is made from grip-friendly plastic with brass details and the extractor is stainless steel with a brass knob. The tip is triple threaded which means that the borer will start easier and move through the wood faster. It is particularly suitable for softwoods. The borers have a 5.15mm diameter and are available with a 200mm, 300mm and 400mm bit length.
Increment borers are used for taking a core sample from a tree trunk which can then be used to evaluate the age and soundness of the tree. These samples are also useful for checking for decay, pollution, chemical penetration and wood density. Borers can also be used to examine old buildings and ships.
