The shola forests are a unique type of vegetation in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, an International Biosphere Reserve in the Western Ghats, India, which are protected. Besides the trees, the understory of sholas are characterized by the presence of high species richness including many economically important plants. Medicinal and Other Economic Plants of Shola Understories, the Nilgiris, Western Ghats deals with the origin, distribution, development and importance of sholas, the parts used for economic purpose, their mode of utilization, need for conservation of shola species, and cultivation possibilities of species that need conservation. All the species of economic importance are illustrated with clear photographs.
