The NHBS Introduction to Habitats: Saltmarsh
Today is World Wetlands Day, created as a call to take action for wetlands. In light of this, we've focused on Saltmarsh as the next habitat in our NHBS Introduction to Habitats series. Saltmarshes are areas of the extreme upper shore of sheltered coasts that are inundated with seawater periodically during high tide. However, they can can also occur further inland, such as along tidal rivers. These habitats are usually angiosperm-dominated areas of vegetation that can develop on a variety of sediment types, including sand and mudflats.
