About this book

Language: Dutch

The plant genus Carex, commonly known as sedges, is part of the family Cyperaceae and is the largest plant genus in the Netherlands. Sedges are important indicator species in environmental management. On the other hand, they are hard to identify for many botanists. First, because they are so numerous, second because they resemble each closely, and third because hybridisation between species is common.

In this second part of the Nova Flora Neerlandica, the authors give an overview of the research history on sedges in the Netherlands. Next, they give an in-depth treatment of all 73 species that have been found in the wild, including twelve introduced (adventive) and one extinct species, as well as all 33 hybrids known so far. The beautiful colour photos illustrate each species.
