The state-of-the-art OZS-5 stereo microscope uses the advanced parallel optics system to provide a first-class optical experience. Parallel optics are difficult and expensive to produce, but provide a far superior experience to the more commonly seen Greenough system. The advantages include a much wider range of magnification, high-contrast images with phenomenal colour translation and depth of field, as well as mitigating the irregular focus of cheaper Greenough stereo microscopes (known as the Keystone Effect) for fatigue-free use. For professional applications, or the very serious hobbyist, it is difficult to do better than a good quality parallel optic system.
The OZS-5 in particular excels with a wider-than-average magnification range of 8-80x, making it ideal for a huge range of applications in the natural sciences and beyond. The 30mm eye pieces allow an impressive amount of light through, producing a bright and crisp image. The 3w incident and transmitted and incident illumination provides and impressively bright image, fully adjustable and further customisable via external light sources such as a Dual Fibre LED Illuminator. The eyepieces are tilted 45° and feature dioptre compensation on both sides, allowing the user to tailor the viewing experience to their eyesight.
This is a trinocular microscope, coming with a photo tube for easy, high-quality microscopic photography. With an appropriate C-mount (available upon request) most microscope cameras are applicable, although Kern's own range is recommended.
