The Nyika Plateau is a unique ecosystem and one of the world's hotspots. Twenty four participants from six countries took part in an expedition to the plateau in March 2000, collecting 3 343 plant specimens. A checklist was started in 1999 and as a result of this expedition, a refined version of the list is published in this book. The list comprises 684 genera, 160 families and 1 891 taxa. A drawing of each genus is supplied so that identification will be made easier.
Included are: climate, soils, landslips, fire, vegetation communities, plant diversity, edemism, herbarium acronyms, photographs and information on collectors, a list of contributors, a glossary, references, and an index to common and scientific names.
