Trilobites were one of the most numerous and diverse animal groups to occur in the prehistoric seas, between 500 and 250 million years ago. They were also one of the most persistent groups, surviving several periods of mass extinction. This book describes and displays the variety and wealth of trilobite families, and explains their contribution to our understanding of geological time.
"Irresistible. [Levi-Setti] has given his collecting self a most precious gift [...] .A reader shares that gift, and many another, like the transient match between the giant tribolites of Newfoundland and those of the Aniti-Atlas Mountain overseas, a pulse of evolutionary change while continents recede"
– Philip Morrison, Scientific American
