A very sturdy but lightweight hand net for routine aquatic sampling, field centre use and river sampling. Available with either a wooden or aluminium handle. The frame includes an inner brass ring and fixings to which the net is attached.
Wooden Handle
The wooden handle (British Ash) means these nets will float if dropped and will remain comfortable to hold in cold water. Conforms to Environment Agency Specifications.
Aluminium Handle
The advantage of the aluminium handle, apart from its price, is that the weight is reduced to less than half that of the wooden handle. The dimensions of the aluminium handle are identical to the wooden handle so it can be used as a replacement for wooden handles without any adverse influence on previous research. The disadvantages of the aluminium handle is that it is cold in winter as well as being vulnerable to denting or bending when used beyond normal practice. Aluminium handles also conduct electricity and care should be taken when using near overhead power lines.
Collapsable handles
The collapsible frames (available in two or three sections) have a wooden handle (British Ash) with sections joined together using brass screw fittings - this enables the net to be collapsed for easy transport. The outer frame is 250mm wide marine grade aluminium with an inner brass ring supporting the net. Net bags are easy to remove when washing or replacing so one frame can be used with a variety of different nets (see below).
