A very sturdy and lightweight hand net designed for routine aquatic sampling, field centre use and river sampling. The net head is 250mm wide and consists of an outer frame constructed of marine grade aluminium and an inner brass frame to support the bag. The high specification net bag is made from woven polyester (1mm or 2mm mesh) or precision welded nylon (all other mesh sizes) for extra durability. Net bags are easily removable for washing or replacement. This means that one frame can be used with a selection of different net bags.
These nets come with an aluminium handle which is far lighter than an equivalent wooden handled net. The dimensions of these handles are identical to the wooden handles and therefore they can be used as replacements for wooden handles without any adverse influence on previous research. The disadvantages of the aluminium handle is that it is cold in winter and more vulnerable to denting or bending when used beyond normal practice. Aluminium handles also conduct electricity and care should be taken when using near overhead power lines.
The Standard Hand Net conforms to Environment Agency specifications. It is available with a standard (0.3m) or deep (0.5m) bag and with a wide variety of mesh sizes.
