This book consists of three well-defined parts. The first is an explanatory introduction to the chapters that will follow. The reasoned justification of the chosen geographical area and a detailed description of the geological origin, its climate and its vegetation, as well as a biogeographic synthesis, a phylogeographic essay and a list of reptiles that have been found in the area.
The second part consists of seven chapters that exhaustively describe the reptile species in the area. Finally, the third part consists of a chapter that offers a review of some of the conservation problems that Macaronesian reptiles currently face. All are accompanied by a careful presentation and colour photographs and illustrations.

Este libro consta de tres partes bien definidas. La primera es una introducción explicativa de los capítulos que vendrán a continuación. La justificación razonada del área geográfica elegida y una detallada descripción del origen geológico, de su clima y de su vegetación, además de una síntesis biogeográfica, un ensayo filogeográfico y una lista de reptiles que se han hallado en la zona.
La segunda parte consta de siete capítulos que describen exhaustivamente las especies de reptiles de la zona. Finalmente la tercera parte consta de un capítulo que ofrece un repaso a algunos de los problemas de conservación con los que topan en la actualidad los reptiles macaronésicos. Todo ello acompañado de una cuidada presentación y fotografías e ilustraciones en color.
