These willow nesting baskets appeal to a broad range of large birds by mimicking natural nest designs. The baskets are attached by wire to the forks of trees to provide nesting sites that are likely to see much repeat usage from year to year. They are particularly useful in encouraging colonisation of new woodlands. Three sizes are available. The 40 cm basket is supplied with a mulch of mixed tree bark which should be thoroughly dampened and spread around the basket. Press firmly in place by hand to provide an attractive nesting site. The birds will then reline the nest each year.
40 cm diameter
Suitable for small and medium sized owls (e.g. long-eared owl) and birds of prey (e.g. kestrel, hobby). Has also been known to attract peregrines in areas where they nest in trees. Site the basket 5 m or above on the edges of woodlands, clearings, parks or sites of windfall.
70 cm diameter
Suitable for larger birds of prey (e.g. common and honey buzzard, red kite, goshawks and sparrowhawks). Site the basket 7 m or above on the edges of woodlands, clearings, parks or sites of windfalls.
110 cm diameter
Suitable for white storks. With a flat base to encourage colonisation this basket is particularly useful in establishing new breeding areas. Can be easily installed in trees or even roofs.
