This field guide collects 240 colour photos of 140 snake species, with information about them and distribution maps for Brazil. Information on morphology (body and tail size, mass and dentition), habitat use (time of activity and substrate), eating habits (main items), reproductive mode (oviparous or viviparous) is provided for each snake presented, together with defensive tactics and whether the species poses a risk of serious envenemation to humans.
The guide also includes texts about other reptiles that can be found in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. The book furthermore presents taxonomic comments on some of the species and a list of all snakes recorded for the Atlantic Forest so far, complemented by information on the type of habitat used by each species.
