Proceedings of a symposium held during the 20th General Assembly of the IUGG, Vienna, 1991. The theme of this conference was the formation, behaviour, and change in snow cover in the Alps; its connection with climatic conditions; and its impact on the mountainous environment. The papers are divided into two themes, 14 chapters covering snow coverage and snow melt, and 8 chapters covering snowmelt and runoff.
