About this book

Language: German

Volume 3 of this classic German excursion fauna, originally written by Erwin Stresemann, covers all vertebrate species living in Germany: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. The main concern is the exact identifiability of the species; In addition, the book is a real "knowledge store". Data on species identification is followed by well-founded information about distribution, habitat and lifestyle, such as migration, social structures, reproduction or vocalizations. Protected and hunted species are characterised. This book is aimed at professionals such as zoologists of various disciplines, students, ecologists, foresters, conservationists and teachers, but also for other readers interested in solid species knowledge, nature lovers and nature observers. Numerous improvements have been made in this 12th edition: data, dates and nomenclature have been updated, the principle of dichotomous keys has been consistently extended to all categories (including an identification key for birds), the number of species considered has been increased, many illustrations have been redrawn or improved, and sections have been reworked, some completely (amphibians), others largely (birds, fish, and  mammals).
