About this book

Banks and other financial institutions play a fundamental role in any economy. They have a correspondingly crucial role to play in achieving sustainable economic development. This work explains how they can contribute and the steps to take. The first part sets the context of environmental imperatives and the responses of governments, business and financial services. Part Two examines the initiatives already under way, and what else is feasible. Part Three argues that more far-reaching change and revitalization of the economic system is needed and then describes how this can be achieved by the financial sector.

Media reviews
Marcel Jeucken has been heralded as the first to provide a comprehensive and accessible book on the subject of sustainable finance and banking. One does not have to look far to find glowing commentaries that welcome the book as a much needed introduction to the subject...accessible yet intellectually challenging book...to read this book is a must for anyone working in this area of environmental banking whether a practitioner or academic. My recommendation would be look out for his doctoral thesis if this book is anything to go by the thesis should provide a very interesting read. -- Social & Environmental Accounting,
