The present study deals with the taxonomy and distribution of small mammal species and subspecies from the orders Scandentia, Rodentia, Soricomorpha and Chiroptera from Madhya Pradesh, India.
The Scandentia are commonly known as tree shrews. Three species under two genera under one family found in India, of which only one species, Anathana ellioti is reported from Madhya Pradesh. Rodents are represented in India by 103 species under 46 genera in seven families, with 22 species under 12 genera and three families in three suborders reported from Madhya Pradesh. The order Soricomorpha, comprising shrews and moles, and Chiroptera, the bats, are similarly presented in this work.
