About this book

A long-awaited accurate and user-friendly field guide to Australian orchids, written and illustrated by the world’s leading expert on the subject. This comprehensive and portable guide includes concise written accounts and stunning colour photographs and line drawings showing key ID features for all 250 or so epiphyte orchid taxa from mainland Australia and the island territories of Lord Howe, Norfolk and Christmas Islands.

The book contains family introductions, many line drawings and ID keys, and a glossary of botanical terms. Related and familiar orchids, such as the sarcanths, are grouped together to make identification easier. Within each grouping, the genera and species are mostly arranged alphabetically, however, in some large or complex genera, such as Sarcochilus, related or similar species are grouped together to assist with identification. In short, this book is the ideal companion to take into the field for any orchid enthusiast.
