About this book

Language: Dutch

Next to some 100 diurnal butterflies, the Netherlands and Belgium are home to some 2300 species of nocturnally active moths. But only few people are aware how species-rich, beautiful and diverse this group is. Het Nachtvlinderboek describes all 905 species of macro-moths. With extensive species descriptions and introductory texts for each family, this book is a treasure trove of information. It treats not just the adult butterflies, but also the caterpillars. The book contains clear photos of butterflies and caterpillars in their natural habitat, and colour plates with pinned specimens, including both males and females, many of them pictured life-size. Introductory chapters discuss the biology and ecology of moths.

Media reviews

"This comprehensive reference book on the macro-moths of the Netherlands and Belgium is the first of its kind being written from the outset in Dutch, and my congratulations to Jeroen Voogd for having completed and published such a stunningly beautiful book. [...] The key feature that allows Voogd's work to stand out proudly above other European macro-moth texts is his use of colour photographs. The book has more than 4,000 beautiful images.[...] Het Nachtvlinderboek is a stunning reference text that should be in the library of every moth recorder that takes a serious interest in the macro-moths of Europe. It should appeal to many who enjoy recording macros in the British Isles, and the superb colour photos of larvae are the stand-out for me that make this book indispensable."
