About this book

Language: Dutch

Seaweeds are a very diverse group of organisms. They are at the basis of the food chain of many marine ecosystems and form a dominant aspect of the Dutch coast. This field guide describes over 130 species from amongst the red, brown and green algae that easily recognisable with the naked eye or a magnifying glass.

For each species, this guide describes characteristics, the differences with similar species, habitat, seasonal patterns, and distribution. Hundreds of photos make the guide useful for identification of seaweeds underwater, in tidal areas, and on the beach. The extensive introduction furthermore contains information about the best places to find seaweeds in the Netherlands, their ecology, exotic species, practical applications, and recipes.
