Just like any other tree, the iconic baobab provides shade and shelter, flowers and fruit. It does its bit to protect the soil, produce oxygen and create medicines and other useful products. Yet the baobab is more than a tree - entwined in its branches, roots and stout form, are myths, mysteries and legends, some of which are included in this book.

Ellen Drake, a biologist and writer, has been fascinated by baobabs from an early age. She has travelled extensively to gather stories from the people who live near them, has grown her own seedlings and has experimented with their produce. This book contains stories and myths from Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar and Australia; boabab botanical and biological facts; instructions for growing one's own (if the size and location of one's garden is suitable!); and, recipes using baobab fruit and leaves.
