The importance of barnboos has increased manifold during the last few decades as a source of raw material for various end uses. Besides being important as a raw material in a number of inndustries, bamboos are used in a myriad ways by rural people and are interwoven with their lifestyle in many parts of our country, especially in North-East India.
Bamboos of North-East India is a pioneering work in the form of a consolidated taxonomic and distributional account based on more than two decades of field works by the authors. It deals with 87 species, one variety and one forrna belonging to the genera of bambusoid grasses occurring in North East India, with keys to the genera and species, updated nomenclature, vernacular names and 68 plates.
Critical discussions on distribution, usage, rare and endangered elements, agro-technique for bamboo cultivation and ornamental bamboo species found in North-East India are added features of the book.
