About this book

Language: French

This work, devoted to the basement rock, the Triassic and the first three stages of the Lias, completes the first volume, previously published under the same title (but which dealt with the Upper Lias and the Dogger). With it, the amateur palaeontologist will have a complete overview on the Lyon Region. The first book was a great success, requiring a first reissue.

The approach chosen for the second volume is the same. After a brief overview of the geology and mineral resources of primary, triassic and liasic terrains, one chapter is devoted to biostratigraphy and another to the systematic study of collected fauna. Many plates illustrate the most characteristic fossils. Although ammonites are still important, a more important place has been reserved for the accompanying fauna, and in particular for bivalves, on which it is difficult to obtain documentation.

In conclusion, this book is essential to all those who, having acquired the first book, wish to complete their documentation on the Lyon region, while stating that the fauna described is found throughout the rest of France and more generally throughout the North West Europe. It brings mainly data on stages that are less well known than those studied in Volume I.
