About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and French

The most famous species of bird to have vanished from the Earth is the Dodo, but it is by no means the only one. More than 40 species of birds endemic to the Mascarenes have disappeared since humans arrived here. Yet many others unique to these islands survive and can be seen to this day. This book tells their story, illustrated with magical photographs their extraordinary beauty.

Birds of the Mascarenes is dedicated to the ambition that the vibrant bird life of this archipelago will be protected in more enlightened times. To this end, profts from the sale of every copy will be donated to the registered charitable organisation the Dodo Live Foundation.

Founded in Mauritius in 2023, the Dodo Live Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about the ecological diversity of Mauritius, to protecting endemic birds and their habitats and to raising awareness of the dangers of deforestation and forest degradation.

By purchasing a copy of this book, you will own an authorative, illustrated review of every species of bird known to have been recorded in the Mascarenes. But even more importantly, you will be helping to ensure no species of bird alive today in these islands today suffers the same fate as the Dodo.
