The Bongo Plankton Net is comprised of a pair of plankton nets mounted side-by-side on a marine grade stainless steel frame. The 300mm diameter nets are held apart using a 350mm stainless steel rod and by utilising different mesh sizes this net can collect two sizes of plankton in the same trawl. Each net is 2.48m long and has a cod end diameter of 110 mm with one net of mesh size 53μm and the second with mesh size 250μm. The cod ends are compatible with our Detachable Sample Bag which is available separately.
The net is towed using five 620mm stainless steel cables that come together in a coupling ring for the attachment of your own tow rope or cable. The recommended towing speed is 2 - 4 knots and we strongly recommend the use of a Depressor Vane to stabilise the net during towing.
