The fifth volume in this series on the butterflies of Vietnam covers the family Pieridae. The introduction includes information about the systematics of Pierid butterflies (Whites), morphological features of the imago, including structure of the genitalia. This section also provides comparative data on the distribution and diversity of members of the family in Vietnam and adjacent areas of southeast Asia; habitats; life cycles; hostplants and behaviour.
The systematic list includes all taxa found in the country, taking into account the latest descriptions and revisions. The main section of the book includes information on 57 species divided into 18 genera of subfamilies Pierinae and Coliadinae. For each species are indicated: type locality; synonyms; range; site and time of recording in Vietnam; habitats, including altitude and list of hostplants; similar species.
Colour plates illustrate the species, including sexual dimorphism, as well as seasonal differences. The map of Vietnam shows 70 areas where materials were collected, as well as their natural characteristics.
