About this product
The Anabat Scout is a handheld, full spectrum bat detector designed specifically for active bat monitoring. This easy to use detector can play heterodyne, auto-heterodyne and frequency division audio through earphones or the built-in speaker. It will also record full spectrum and zero crossing files to an SD card, with every file geo-tagged. You can even record your own voice notes to the SD Card. The Scout has an in/out bat counter that time stamps and geotags each count as well as built-in GPS, so you can record your transect route.
The detector is housed in a robust, ergonomically-designed case with a small black OLED display, providing important information without being distracting. Glow in the dark buttons ensure you can find and operate your detector at night, even without your headtorch. The Scout includes a protective carry pouch with belt loop and lanyard. A free version of Anabat Insight software is also included allowing you to analyse and view your recordings. Power is supplied by 2 x AA batteries (not included).

Not as good as a Batlogger
By

Cheap compared to a Batlogger, but unreliable.
Light, easy to carry on transects! Displays frequency and time of last bat trigger.
But,
Can't handle any moisture! Even dew on a dawn survey! The sound goes very darlek-y.
It also misses some bats! Recording frequently failed to trigger even on high sensitivity on numerous occasions including on a few very important emergences.
The firmware is glitchy! Hard reset (battery removal) is the only way to solve some problems, not ideal in the field!
There's a major problem with the volume of FD output using headphones, it's SO LOUD that you can't listen to it.
Most of these problems I'm sure could be solved with a firmware update. But it's disappointing that Titley rolled this out before it was properly tested. Buy it now if you don't mind being a guinea pig.

Great for commercial surveys

Having used this detector for the 2019 bat season there is little to complain at. The price tag is very reasonable it comes with inbuilt GPS and emergence/ re-entry timestamp counter which is very useful when comparing against video footage for missed bats. It is a simple press and go detector so suitable to give to any level of a user which is ideal when you have novice surveyors in the field. Our 2019 season surveyors thoroughly enjoyed using the detectors and said they were more relaxed undertaking the surveys. Some reviews point to bats not triggering the detector however we have tested this out alongside other detectors and different bat species roost and found trigger rates the same so 'no' triggers are more likely related to the bat than detector, you can also override auto-trigger if you are unsure. Recordings are nice and clear when viewed thought the accompanying software Anabat insight.
All-round a great detector that has become our primary recoding unit for surveys.

Great for the price, and essential for commercial surveys.

We have been using these detectors for the last four years and I found them to be exceptional and a solid commercial bat detector at a reasonable price. We regularly use these for both emergence surveys and transect surveys and find them to be very accurate and produce excellent recordings. Together with the Annalook software, I feel this is an excellent product for commercial use.
