After obtaining a research post at the University of Cape Town, Dr Mike Lucas was asked to be involved in South Africa's Antarctica Oceanographic Programme and was among those selected to initiate a new programme concerned with climate change. He has been involved in more than 10 research cruises to sub-antarctic islands, the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic continent and his work has received international recognition. Mike currently lives in Cape Town, although he spends several months at sea every year.
