The Atlas and Red List of the Reptiles of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland is a book that was published with the co-ordinated input from the Animal Demography Unit (ADU), the South African National Biodiversity Institute’s (SANBI) Threatened Species Programme and SANBI Publishing. A team of reptile experts has written a comprehensive but accessible account for each of the 422 species included in the book, and includes information on the distribution, habitat, threats and conservation measures required for the conservation of each species. Each species is placed in one of the threat categories of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List system, an internationally endorsed scientific approach to assessing the risks of extinction to species.
The broad range of information as well as the informative and beautiful illustrations presented here makes this a publication which will be useful to everyone, from conservation planners and managers, researchers, professional and amateur herpetologists, legislators, environmental consultants and members of the public
