The Galapagos archipelago is one of the most famous destinations on Earth for lovers of natural history. Straddling the equator in the Pacific Ocean c. 1000 km west of Ecuador lies 'the world's natural laboratory' with its large radiations of mockingbirds and Darwin's finches. Biography

Dušan Brinkhuizen is a biologist and lifelong avid birder residing in Ecuador. He graduated in The Netherlands during which period he conducted ornithological projects in several regions of the world. First introduced to Ecuador’s biodiversity and wilderness in 2006, he has remained in the country ever since. Dušan has been leading birding trips throughout the Neotropics, including the Galapagos, for more than a decade. A founding member of the Comité Ecuatoriano de Registros Ornitológicos (CERO), Ecuador’s rare bird committee, and a keen wildlife photographer, he has found several first country records, including a new species to South America.

Jonas Nilsson started birding in Sweden at the age of eight and arrived in Ecuador in 1993. Since then, he has travelled extensively to every corner of Ecuador, including the Galapagos. In 2003, co-produced the Birds of Ecuador DVD-ROM, which at the time was the world’s largest single-disc compilation of bird songs. He is one of the founders of Wildsumaco Lodge and its Biological Station and is also actively involved in conservation via the associated Rio Pucuno Foundation. Jonas has found 12 new species of birds for the country, and in 2013 was the first person to reach the milestone of 1500 bird species seen in mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos combined.
