Thysanoptera is a small order in Insecta which includes more than 7400 species in 596 genera. Most species feed on pollen and pollen grain of plant flowers, and there is still a considerable proportion of species sucking juices from leaves, living under the leaf epidermis and causing galls. Also, a small proportion of species live in leaf litter, feeding on fungus spores. In addition, some species are beneficial insects because they prey on other thrips and mites. Thrips are worldwide species and distribute all over the world.
The present work deals with the Thysanoptera fauna of China. It consists of two sections, a general section and a taxonomic section. In the general section, the history and overview of Thysanoptera research in China are reviewed and different taxonomic systems of different taxonomists are compared and discussed. In addition, morphological features and terminology, anatomy structure, biology as well as economic significance are introduced and the research advances are added. In the taxonomic section, 4 superfamilies, 5 families, 10 subfamilies, 21 tribes, 131 genera and 422 species of Thysanoptera from China are described. The key to families, subfamilies, tribes genera and species and 420 morphological figures are presented
