This book t provides an introduction to the important aspects of archive management for those librarians, curators and others who are not formally qualified archivists but find themselves acquiring responsibilities for archive material. From the outset the Committee did not want to produce a textbook or guide to every aspect of managing archives but to publish a resource that would provide answers to the day-to-day questions that arise when dealing with archives.
The book is organised in five sections: acquisition and appraisal, cataloguing, preservation, reader services, and marketing.
