In the Flora of Thailand, Volume 4, Part 3.1 (Leguminosae-Papilionoideae), the authors provided the key to tribes by following the traditional concept of the tribe Millettieae, which firstly described by Miquel in Flora van Nederlandsch Indie (1855: 137) and later intensively revised by Geesink (Leiden Bot. Ser. 8. 1984). However, the tribe itself was subsequently proved as a polyphyletic taxon in several DNA-based phylogenetic studies. Furthermore, The tribe Wisterieae was defined by Zhu (Cathaya 6: 115-124. 1994), by comparing pollen morphology from four species of Wisteria to the millettioid-phaseoloid genera. Furthermore, results from cytological, phytochemical and embryological analyses also strongly supported Zhu’s concept of the tribe Wisterieae, until the intensive revision based on both morphology and molecular phylogeny by Compton et al. (Phytokeys 125: 1-112. 2019) was recently published.

In order to follow the most "up to date" study of Compton et al., the authors of this volume decided to separate three genera, i.e. Afgekia, Callerya and Endosamara from the tribe Millettieae sensu Geesink (1984) to the revised tribe Wisterieae (together with Adinobotrys). The re-circumscribed Afgekia and Callerya, including reinstated genera Padbruggea Miq. and Whitfordiodendron Elmer, and the new genera Kanburia J. Compton, Mattapha, Sirich. & Schrire, Sigmoidala J. Compton & Schrire and Wisteriopsis J. Compton & Schrire, are included here. The introduced and cultivated taxa in Thailand i.e. Wisteria with two ornamental species and Wisteriopsis reticulata (Benth.) J. Compton & Schrire, are also provided.
