This hedgehog shelter with feeder attachment is manufactured in Devon and designed to provide an ideal summer nesting box and hibernation place for our declining populations. With a long entrance tunnel to cut out drafts and exclude predators, a removable sloping roof to promote water run-off, and frame constructed from robust 12mm FSC exterior plywood it provides a warm and secure shelter for hedgehogs in your garden. Draft-free integral ventilation prevents the build-up of humidity and excessive heat during the summer and wooden runners keep the base of the box off the ground, optimising the interior conditions. The additional feeder attachment on one side provides an optional dry area for food and water to be provided.
Cold wind and damp can have a serious impact on hedgehogs. Therefore hedgehog boxes should be located in a sheltered space and ideally oriented at an East or South facing to shield the entrance from bad weather. They can be left as is, partially buried, incorporated into a logpile or compost heap or covered in leaf litter as desired. If buried, it is recommended that some roofing felt or a plastic sheet is placed beneath the runners to create a cavity beneath the box and reduce the humidity in the interior.
Supplied with a free pot of animal-friendly waterproof treatment to apply to the outside of the box when needed, prolonging it's life.
