About this product

The Riverfly Partnership receives £5 from the sale of this kit to help them continue their fantastic conservation work.

The Riverfly Partnership is a dynamic network of organisations representing anglers, conservationists, entomologists, scientists and waterway authorities. This network of key groups work together to protect the water quality of our rivers, promote research and understanding of riverfly populations and to conserve and improve riverfly habitat quality.

The Riverfly Monitoring Scheme encourages anglers and other local groups to test the quality of their local waters regularly. This means that the overall health of our inland waters is more thoroughly monitored and any concerns can be reported rapidly and effectively.

Please see the Riverfly Partnership website for more information about how to get involved.

Please note: Following discussions with the Riverfly Partnership National Co-ordinator regarding the purpose and functionality of the kits, the kits no longer include the FSC freshwater name trail, and only 1x Large pipette and 1x Magnifier. We have reduced the price of the Riverfly kits to reflect this change and these items can still be purchased separately. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at customer.services@nhbs.com or call us on 01803 865913.

The approved Riverfly Monitoring Kit contains:

1 x 250mm Professional Hand Net with 1mm mesh net bag (0.5m deep) - Standard, two-piece, three-peice handles available

1 x Large, heavy-duty white tray

1 x Nine-section divided tray

  • Riverfly tray too big
By Alan 18 Jun 2016 Written for Two-Piece Sectional Net
I am a volunteer with Riverfly and have been issued with the standard kit. I find that the large pipettes are too coarse for sampling and the large sorting tray too big to fit into the bucket. Small pipettes are better and a tray that would fit into the bucket would make transportation so much better.

  • Riverfly kits are well thought out, good value
By Ian 1 Jul 2018 Written for Three-Piece Sectional Net
Personally as a Workshop tutor and a regular user of the kit with others in my fishing club, I find that the size of the tray is just right and although perhaps a smaller option could be made available? When there are two or three of us identifying and sorting the sample at the river bank, this gives enough room for the sample to be looked at by more than one person (speeding up the sorting) it also spreads out the sample making an educated estimate of abundance of species left in the tray much easier. The pipette I find very easy and it is not so smooth as to allow the little beats to slip back out!
It's unfortunate that there now only seem to be two spoons and two brushes.. My criticism would be the brushes are too stiff and the glue on them takes a long time to wash out before first use.
