About this book

In 2001, Kenneth Dodd wrote North American Box Turtles – A Natural History. The book summarized the life history ot box turtles trom a scientific perspective in the hopes of stimulating research that would lead to conservation. I noted that naturalists, including keepers of turtles, had much to offer scientists by bringing a keen sense of observation toward their subjects of interest, especially in the area of behavioral and sensory aspects of life history. For example, how effective is the sense ot smell, and how do turtles find food and mates? I did not cover captive care. The Complete North American Box Turtle complements the earlier book, and together Kenneth Dodd hopes that these books serve to inspire interest in the protection of box turtles and their habitats. The authors are commended tor interweaving a strong message ot conservation and stewardship in our interaction with wildlife.
