About this book

Language: English

It is considered internationally that China is one of the megadiversity countries in the world, where the number of species make up about one tenth of the total number of the world. It is hard to say exactly how many species of spiders there are in China. But it may be roughly estimated that there are at least 3 500 species. The number of species which had been named is only about two thirds of the total. Many species remain to be discovered and described. The present comprehensively revision is based upon the examination of most specimens from China and bring together as much as possible the information on these spiders. In all, 2 361 species belonging 450 genera and 56 families are presented recognized. Faunistic data and distribution pattern for each species are given, based on both our collection and from full literature. The Spiders of China summarize the results of previous studies designed to rectify misidentification and promote international exchange by writing in English In view of the scattered state of relevant literature, it contains systematical and accurate citation of the published papers. It differs from Fauna Sinica in systematically listing of various types of palpal organs, epigynums and chelicerae with a view to facilitating species identification through similar structure.
