Biography

About the authors Guy A. Baldassarre, PhD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and Forest Biology at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry of the State University of New York, Syracuse. Dr. Baldassarre received his doctorate in wildlife ecology and management from Texas Tech University. Prior to joining the teaching staff of the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, he was Assistant Professor at Auburn University, from 1982 to 1987. He has been a member of the Wildlife Society since 1973, and he is a member of the Wilson Ornithological Society, the Cooper Ornithological Society, and the American Ornithologists Union. Professor Baldassarre has studied and written on the waterfowl and wetlands of coastal Louisiana, the playa lakes of Texas, Wisconsin, Alabama, New York, and Manitoba. Since 1986 he has been actively involved in conservation efforts and research on the neotropical wetlands in Mexico, especially aspects related to waterfowl and Caribbean flamingos. Eric G. Bolen, PhD, is Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Professor Bolen received his doctorate in wildlife ecology from Utah State University in 1967. Prior to coming to the University of North Carolina, he was Paul Whitfield Horn Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Texas Tech University from 1982 to 1988, Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Texas Tech University from 1978 to 1988, and Assistant Director of the Welder Wildlife Foundation from 1973 to 1978. Professor Bolen is listed in the National Leaders of America, Conservation, has been a member of the Wildlife Society since 1959 and is a life member of the Wilson Ornithological Society, the Cooper Ornithological Society, and the American Ornithologists' Union. He has served as editor of the Wildlife Society Bulletin, and is currently on the editorial board of Conservation Biology. His other books include, Mississippi Kite: Portrait of a Southern Hawk and Wildlife Ecology and Management.
