About this book

This book includes 100 drawings of wild trees and shrubs found in the Algarve, Portugal. These include trees and shrubs growing naturally in this area, as well as those that have been introduced here by man, and now are regarded as indigenous. Also included are a number of plants that do not really belong to the above groups, but resemble them by their size or growth habit.

The order in which the plants are depicted is corresponding to the order that is common in the science of plant systematics. This is also the sequence used in the standard work about Portuguese plants Nova Flora de Portugal (Continente e Acores). For the name giving this work has been followed too. After a short introduction and a glossary of technical terms, the main part of the book deals with the colour plates and plant descriptions in English. The book ends with an index of English and scientific names.
