About this product

This GPS Receiver/Antenna is for use with the Echo Meter EM3+, SMZC, SM4 Acoustics and SM4BAT FS ultrasonic recorders. This receiver allows you to log the location of your path and recordings.

When used with the SMZC or SM4BAT it will allow you to easily configure time of day recording schedules and can also be used to synchronise the time and date settings when using multiple units.

The GPS antenna conveniently connects to the port on the right side of the EM3/EM3+ device and securely attaches to the back using the included fastening points. For optimal placement during activities like car transects, the antenna can be extended with a standard CAT-5 network extension cable (male to female).

Upon connecting the GPS, a "?" symbol will appear to the right of the time on the display’s bottom line, indicating that the antenna is recognized but not yet synchronized. Once the GPS acquires satellite signals and synchronizes the time, the "?" will change to a "$". If a "!" appears, there is a communication error with the antenna. In this case, please check the connection and try again. The latitude and longitude in decimal degrees will be displayed next to the time.

If the GPS has been recently used in the area, the position fix will take less than a minute. However, if it has been a while or if the GPS has traveled a significant distance, it will need to download new data tables, taking up to 40 minutes for the first fix. Subsequent fixes will then typically occur in under a minute.
