The pocket penetrometer is an essential tool for quickly assessing the penetration resistance of soil's top layers, both in the field and laboratory. Designed for shallow measurements, it evaluates the top 5 millimetres of soil with a measuring range of up to 0.5 MPa. This instrument provides an immediate indication of the penetration resistance encountered.
How It Works:
When the penetrometer is pushed into the ground, the pin experiences resistance from the soil. This force compresses a spring inside the instrument. As the spring compresses, a slip ring moves along a calibrated scale, displaying the maximum force encountered. The scale is precisely calibrated to provide an instant reading of the soil's penetration resistance.
Applications:
The flat cone attachment allows for accurate shallow measurements, making it ideal for quick assessments of surface layers or specific samples.
