About this book

Language: Italian with scientific nomenclature

The Coleophoridae are small-sized microlepidopterans, often of little showy appearance, that are dark, brownish or ochre in colour. The Italian territory hosts more than half of the known species in Europe. Although many scholars and enthusiasts are interested in these insects due to anatomical specificities, there are very few national monographs, also due to the difficulties related to the identification of the single species that prevent the drafting of keys normally used by scholars. This volume, which collects studies from over 40 years of research and collections, aims to present the current knowledge of Italian Coleophoridae and to provide the tools suitable for their identification through color and black and white tables and photographs. Not harmful to plants, Coleophoridae are environmental quality indicators and tools for the management planning of areas of naturalistic interest but, given the current situation of progressive destruction of habitats due to pollution, construction, abandonment of woods and traditional agriculture; they are at risk of extinction.
