About this book

This volume covers the family Annonaceae, a family of flowering plants consisting of trees, shrubs, and rarely lianas that are commonly known as the custard apple family. This is a family of about 113 genera and 2500 species, pantropical, extending into the subtropics of Asia, Australia, and the Americas, one genus in temperate North America. Thirty-eight of the 42 genera native to Asia are present in Thailand, along with the introduced genus Annona. All genera except Wuodendron occur in the Peninsular Region, and eleven are restricted to that region. Twelve genera occur in all seven regions of the country. Diversity appears lowest in the drier North-Eastern and Eastern regions, but new discoveries continue to be made from these areas. Nearly 300 species are recorded in this treatment.
