Covering over 300 species, this is a comprehensive reference to European and North American seafish. Notes on fishing method and use are included and the text includes over 700 colour illustrations.

Ce classique de l’édition naturaliste (depuis 1966) permet la découverte et l’identification de 273 espèces peuplant les eaux salées et saumâtres de l’Europe occidentale. Outre une introduction très complète détaillant la biologie, les mœurs et les aires de distribution géographique des poissons, mollusques et crustacés comestibles, chaque espèce est décrite avec précision et illustrée en couleurs. Nombre d’entre elles sont accompagnées d’une carte de répartition, d’un schéma indiquant la technique de pêche qui leur est appropriée ou des dessins de leurs œufs et des proies qui constituent leur alimentation.

En fin d’ouvrage, plusieurs chapitres sont consacrés à l’ichtyologie ainsi qu’à l’histoire et aux techniques de l’industrie de la pêche.
